Job Description

Description Medical Billing Specialist Remote Position - Must Reside in CT, NY, NJ, or MA

About the Position:

Behind every client’s access to care is a team working to make the process as clear and seamless as possible. As a Medical Billing Specialist on our Client Access team, you’ll play an important role in that process by verifying insurance benefits, identifying coverage requirements or barriers, and helping ensure accurate information is available before services begin. We’re looking for someone who brings strong attention to detail, follow-through, and a client-focused approach to every verification.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Your Role:

  • Verify insurance eligibility and behavioral health or substance use disorder benefits before services are provided
  • Use payer portals and phone calls to confirm deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximums, network status, limitations, and authorization requirements
  • Document verification details accurately and communicate benefits, estimated patient responsibility, and coverage concerns to appropriate teams
  • Follow up on discrepancies, coverage changes, and pending verifications within established timelines
  • Escalate coverage barriers promptly and maintain organized supporting documentation
  • Follow HIPAA and compliance guidelines and support revenue cycle functions as needed

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • At least 1 year of experience in insurance verification, patient access, and/or medical billing
  • Knowledge of eligibility, benefits, and patient responsibility
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and follow-through

Compensation:

The base rate of pay for this position is $22.00 to $24.00 per hour. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, performance, and working conditions.

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive benefit package
  • Paid Time Off (which increases after 1 year with Mountainside)
  • Paid holidays including a Multicultural Holiday
  • 401(k) with employer matching
  • Monthly $75.00 wellness reimbursement. Our Wellness Reimbursement benefit is meant to encourage employees to engage in productive self-care to avoid burnout and compassion fatigue.
